Your Ski Instructor in La Thuile - Experience, Method and Genuine Attention

The Art of Listening Before Teaching
A ski lesson does not begin only when you put on your boots, but much earlier: it starts with carefully listening to and observing the person in front. For me, understanding who you really are is the starting point for turning your day on the snow into a special and unforgettable moment.

Over the years I have learned to pick up on subtle signals: the way you move, the tone of your voice, your expression… all details that reveal your emotions.

Maria, one of my students, told me:

“I never imagined skiing could make me feel so free. When Pietro understood my fear, everything changed.”

Fear is often the first obstacle, especially if you have not skied for a long time or are starting as an adult or after an accident. Only children seem to embrace the mountains without fear. Releasing that tension is the key to building confidence: the lesson then becomes a relationship of support, sometimes even a friendship.

Overcoming the fear of falling means rediscovering the joy of skiing and experiencing the mountains without limits. Ignoring this aspect with rigid instructions is the most common mistake.

My approach is based on constant dialogue: I listen, ask questions and involve you on an emotional level.

Even those who suffer from vertigo or feel overwhelmed by the vastness of the Alps can find peace thanks to a patient and empathetic guide.

Paul, another student, told me:

“With Pietro, snow is no longer a limit, but a discovery that is renewed every time.”

The secret to skiing with confidence?

True freedom on the mountain comes from knowing your limits, managing fear and understanding when to stop.
Skiing is not just a sport: it is respect for nature, self-knowledge and a new way of experiencing the mountains.

From the First Step to a Confident Skier: Your Journey on the Snow

Teaching someone who is approaching skiing for the first time, or someone who has had negative experiences, requires patience, empathy and a carefully calibrated method. It is not about imposing rules, but about accompanying you through small milestones and great emotions.

I speak Italian, English and French, so I can immediately create an authentic relationship, break the ice and make you feel at home, wherever you come from.

I do not teach technique alone: I build an experience together with you that grows day after day, step by step. After years spent on the slopes of La Thuile, Cervinia, Zermatt, Courmayeur, Courchevel, Saint Moritz and beyond, I have understood that this is the real secret.

If you want to experience your snow adventure with a ski instructor who truly listens to you, contact me for a personalised lesson.

The Story of Steven - From Fear to a Passion for Skiing

Every lesson starts long before putting on your boots, it begins with a WhatsApp message saying:

“I’m wearing a red jacket with white stripes, I’ll be waiting for you in front of the gondola.” Then comes a photo and a word of welcome.

A small gesture that immediately makes a difference: the person arriving feels welcomed, at ease and less intimidated by the mountains.

That morning I am waiting for Steven, 51, a property manager between London and Monaco. From his emails I understand that skiing makes him nervous. I am already there early, ahead of time as always: “Better to wait than to chase,” I think.

At 9H02AM I call him; he does not answer, then I see him arrive in the beginners’ area. I observe him: blue jacket, grey trousers, uncertain steps. When he approaches, I notice the tension in his shoulders, his undone ski boots, his alarmed expression.

Years ago I would have said:

“Let’s go!”, but now I know that the real lesson is made of calm and small gestures.

I take his skis, help him fasten his boots and invite him to cover up better. No orders, just attention.

He starts telling me about his last skiing experience, which ended badly. About how he felt judged and hurt by that episode.

We talk about rugby (he played for twenty years), family, Brexit, the London weather. About skiing, for now, nothing: and that is perfectly fine.

We arrive at the beginners’ area of La Thuile, with firm snow, a clear and silent sky. The ride up on the magic carpet is the first test: Steven tackles it with dignity and a good dose of courage.

“I thought I’d look ridiculous, but I’m fine”, he tells me with a shy smile.

The lesson takes shape: I teach the basic movements gently, without rushing. When he feels he is in control of the situation, everything changes.

On the fourth run, almost without realising it, Steven skis down on his own. He stops, looks at me and laughs:

“Bloody hell, I did it!” he exclaims in amazement and joy.

He immediately asks me to book more lessons. The whole week, Full Day.

At the end of the week I also meet his wife Kate: they have skied together, laughed, learned and overcome fears that had seemed insurmountable.

“I never thought I could feel so confident on skis. Pietro, you have revolutionised the way I experience the mountains”, he told me on the last day.

Do you recognise yourself in Steven?

Have you always wanted to ski but something held you back?

Your first lesson begins with a message. Write to me and let’s start building your snow adventure together.

One step at a time. With patience. With intelligence. With passion.

Rebecca and Regaining Confidence

It is an ordinary week in January in La Thuile. The sky is overcast, the snow immaculate, and the trees reflect silvery glints. This is where I meet Rebecca for the first time.

She arrives punctually at the meeting point, with a calm but genuine smile. She speaks English with the enthusiasm typical of someone on holiday but aware that she has to face something new. I ask her about her skiing background and her work. She answers energetically, but behind the smile I sense a slight hidden tension.

I check her equipment: boots properly tightened, bindings adjusted, skis prepared to the millimetre. Everything seems perfect, at least on the surface.

A Silent Beginning
We take the chairlift and start skiing. Or, more precisely, I try to guide her through the skiing. Rebecca seems distant, almost absent. My advice seems not to reach her. When she puts on her goggles, she switches off: no reaction, no visible progress. The situation is frustrating for both of us, but I do not give up.

I change tactics: I use the time on the chairlift to talk about other things. Sailing boats, my experience at sea, snow changing with the wind. I observe her, looking for a way to connect with her. Then, on the fifth chairlift, Rebecca turns to me and asks:

“Do you really race with Tuiga?”

It is the spark. From that moment she begins to open up: her life between Milan and London, her perfect knowledge of Italian, her passion for languages and mountains. The ice is broken.

The Turning Point
Rebecca confides in me that her previous skiing experiences had been a disaster: cold, overly technical lessons, lacking empathy. Despite everything, she had always tried to improve, but without results.

At the end of the chairlift ride, I understand that I cannot follow the usual routine. I decide to break the usual patterns and rules. I will ski together with her… in a snowplough, but backwards!

Yes, exactly like that: step by step, face to face, I monitor every movement, reassuring her with my voice and my eyes. There is no room for fear here, only for shared attention.

Concrete Progress and Growing Enthusiasm
At the end of the lesson, Rebecca books an entire week with me. Halfway through, I see her relax: we move from obsessive control to a freedom that grows hour by hour. The skis come together in parallel, the turns become smooth, and she laughs. I continue to follow her, backwards in a snowplough, on the blue runs of La Thuile. The game works: fear disappears, leaving room only for enjoyment.

A Transformation That Goes Beyond Skiing
A month later we meet on the slopes of Alpe d’Huez, and the following year in Courchevel. Rebecca continues to improve, have fun and trust herself (and me). In the end, we find ourselves on red runs, where she skis with confidence and elegance. I remain there, in front of her, still skiing backwards in a snowplough, supporting her as I did at the beginning. Because sometimes, to overcome our fears, we have to be willing to change ourselves too.

Do you recognise yourself in Rebecca?
Have you had bad experiences on skis?
Do you think skiing is not for you?

Let’s try together, calmly, respectfully and methodically.

Matteo and the Search for the Perfect Turn

I meet Matteo during a week in March in La Thuile. He is 36, lives in Milan and works in communications. He loves the mountains, has been skiing for some time, but feels stuck at an intermediate level. He wants to improve his technique, leave behind a rigid, edgy style and truly learn to carve. His expectations are high, and I like that.

We meet for an initial Half Day session. The level is there: Matteo is confident and handles his equipment well, but as soon as the gradient or speed increases, the turn breaks down, he loses control and the skis slide without turning. He is missing the key to advanced skiing: carving.

Initial Goals: Balance, Confidence and Continuity
I explain clearly that to improve we have to work thoroughly, correct his movement patterns and train consistently. Matteo is motivated, accepts this and decides to follow me for the whole week, Full Day.

We start the next day: open terrain, moderately stiff skis, gentle slopes. I ask him to slow down, feel how the turn develops from the inside foot, maintain the correct angle between his pelvis and the snow, work on pressure and upper-body inclination, and finally control the edge.

“Imagine the turn as a bracket that opens and closes. Don’t cut it short, draw it.”

Matteo takes notes, reflects, asks questions. And above all, he listens.

From Student to Athlete
Halfway through the week we move on to consecutive turns: I use flats and then red runs, to make him manage pressure without unnecessary braking. We correct his parallel skiing and increase the edge angle. We analyse every turn; every section of piste becomes an opportunity to refine the movement, eliminate automatisms and make the skiing cleaner.

At lunch we review the videos. Matteo watches them critically and accepts the advice enthusiastically. He can see himself transforming, and his confidence grows. At the end of the day, tired but happy, he confides:

“I’ve never done so many quality runs in my life. I really feel like a better skier.”

The Perfect Turn
On the last day we decide to dare a little more. The sky is clear, the snow firm but not icy. We go back up to the Little St Bernard, then ski down to La Rosière. The wide, steep slopes invite us to push. It is time to test the carving.

I guide him with my voice and by example:

“Let the skis do the work, don’t try to control everything. Follow the flow, place the knee, incline the upper body. Trust your body.”

Matteo carves: the edges bite into the snow, the body follows, the trajectory is precise. There is no longer the sound of brushing, only silence and smooth acceleration. At the end of the run he stops, looks at me and smiles:

“So this is what ‘feeling the snow’ means? I feel like I’m skiing on rails.”

Exactly. Now we have it.

Result: A Real Transformation
In five days Matteo has gone from an intermediate skier to an advanced, technical, fluid and aware skier. We approached every turn as if climbing a wall: with attention, method and courage. In his eyes I saw the spark of the true joy of skiing well.

Do you recognise yourself in Matteo?
Do you have a good foundation but feel that something is missing to make the leap to the next level?

Let’s work together: open terrain, listening, technique and passion. I will accompany you through a week of continuous progression to rediscover the pleasure of the perfect turn. Write to me.

Ski Safari between La Thuile & La Rosière: A Day with the Thompson Family

When I receive a request to organise a Ski Safari between La Thuile and La Rosière, I know it will not be an ordinary day. My goal is to create a completely personalised experience, made up of skiing, nature, smooth logistics and little moments to remember forever.

Like that time with the Thompson family: four Americans on holiday in the Italian and French Alps for the first time.

I meet them at 9AM at the Hotel Montana Lodge & Spa, an elegant five-star property in the heart of La Thuile. They are punctual and smiling. We walk to the Only Ski rental shop, where we quickly find the perfect equipment for each of them.

David and Susan, the parents, cautious but passionate skiers; Jake, 19, eager to refine his carving technique; Emily, 15, elegant but insecure: she needs confidence before anything else, even technique.

It only takes a few minutes to understand: every member of the family has different needs, but they all want to share a special experience. And above all, they are looking for a guide who will accompany, protect and motivate them.

The Magic Begins on the Slopes of La Thuile
The day is perfect: clear skies, ideal temperatures and firm snow on the Italian side. We start in the Les Suches area, with a couple of warm-up runs to assess their levels.

I adapt the programme immediately:

* With Jake we work on advanced angulation, pressure management and fast lines.

* With Emily feels more comfortable on wide, well-prepared runs, so we move towards the Piccolo San Bernardo area, where she can build confidence calmly.

* With David and Susan, on the other hand, I work on wide turns, explaining the differences between carving and skidding, while keeping the group together.

My goal is clear: to get them all skiing together, each at their own pace, but with the feeling that they are sharing an experience.

La Rosière: The French Side between Carving and Omelettes
At 11AM we cross the border into France. The scenery changes: the slopes open out into wider valleys and the landscape stretches towards Vanoise National Park.

I choose the terrain carefully, assessing the exposure, the light and the quality of the snow. Knowing the area is essential to ensure smoothness and safety.

I book our table at Antigel by message, one of the most evocative restaurants in the area, appreciated for its views and cuisine.

Meanwhile:

* Jake enjoys a technical variant.
* Emily and Susan enjoy a long panoramic traverse to Plan du Repos.
* David follows me for a couple of tips on how to handle changes in gradient without losing balance.

At lunchtime we are all gathered around a plate of Savoyard omelette and a glass of local white wine.

Emily laughs. Jake wants to know how you learn to “ski like the Italian instructors”. Susan asks me whether in the afternoon we will be able to see and fly over the Rutor glacier.

A Guide, Not Just an Instructor
In the afternoon the weather changes slightly: some clouds are approaching from the north. I decide to return to the Italian side early to avoid wind and queues on the way back.

We cross the Belvedere area with a long descent that alternates carved turns, photo stops and a few technical tips to improve balance in wide turns.

Every decision is made with them in mind: they do not have to worry about anything. I take care of technique, safety, logistics and the quality of their time.

Back to La Thuile: A Shared Success
At 4PM we are back in La Thuile. Almost 4,000 metres of vertical descent skied together. Jake wants to try the last black run. Emily is tired but happy. David and Susan look at each other knowingly: they know this day will remain among the best memories of their holiday.

Before saying goodbye, Susan shakes my hand and says:

“We never expected to find such a complete guide. You gave us an extraordinary day. Shall we do it again tomorrow?”

6 Friends, 10 Days in the Alps: Skiing, Emotions and Unforgettable Adventures

They arrived from four corners of the world: Philip from London, David from New York, Luca from Zurich, Théo from Paris, together with Clara and Emma, travel companions and mountain lovers. They were all united by the desire to experience an authentic adventure among snow-covered peaks.

This was not the classic ski holiday. It was a trip among friends, a tailor-made experience made of shared emotions, genuine smiles and intense days on the most beautiful slopes of the Italian and French Alps.

My task?

To accompany them at every moment, manage all the technical and logistical organisation and leave them free to enjoy the mountains.

Every Morning, a New Adventure in La Thuile and Beyond
At 8AM the minivan was ready in front of the Montana Lodge & Spa in La Thuile.

Destinations?

Always different: La Thuile, Courmayeur, La Rosière, Chamonix... every day new slopes, dreamlike views and perfectly snow-covered runs, often far from the crowds.

The group naturally split into sub-groups: Philip and Théo chased speed with wide turns and determined carving, while Clara focused on technical improvement, gaining confidence and fluidity. Emma and Luca, more contemplative, skied in a relaxed way, enjoying the Alpine scenery.

Philip: “I have never found slopes so perfect and quiet. It felt as if we had the whole mountain to ourselves.”

Clara: “Thanks to Pietro’s guidance, I have pushed beyond my limits. Knowing that he takes care of everything, from safety to equipment, makes all the difference.”

On the Snow: Real Emotions, No Filters
There is a magical moment when you leave the crowded lifts behind and find yourself surrounded by the silence of the mountains. Only the sound of skis on the firm snow accompanies the emotions.

Clara progresses turn after turn, guided step by step, while David and Mark enjoy a sporting challenge on a technical section. The friendly competition makes everything more lively.

David: “With Pietro, every day flies by. He always takes us to the most beautiful places and knows all of us perfectly.”

Between one ski run and the next, we stop at the most panoramic mountain huts. Lunches become real moments of sharing, with breathtaking views over the Alps and Mont Blanc. The day on the French side at La Rosière will remain unforgettable: carving on wide slopes and a perfect fondue at Antigel, the group’s favourite restaurant.

Everything Is Planned in Advance, for a Worry-Free Holiday
Every detail was planned: equipment rented at Only Ski, ski passes ready every morning, skis selected to suit the snow conditions and the technical goals of the day.

Emma: “I didn’t think such careful organisation could really change everything. It was a dream.”

Dinner was also a special occasion: reserved venues, authentic cuisine and a convivial atmosphere. We talked about the day’s runs, laughed and toasted to our progress. Every evening became a celebration.

A Journey That Goes Beyond Skiing
Ten
days of skiing, but also friendship, discovery and growth. Between technique and fun, every participant improved their skiing while sharing intense moments in a unique environment.

Luca: “With Pietro by our side, every run became an adventure. More than an instructor, an experienced and reliable travel companion.”

From the first uncertain turns to the confident smiles at the end of the holiday, every moment was fully lived.

Would you like to experience something like this too?

Contact me and we will build an exclusive tour together through the Italian and French Alps. It will be a tailor-made holiday where every detail is designed for you, and the only thing you will have to do is surrender to the beauty of the mountains.

Heli-Skiing & Freeride in La Thuile: An Authentic Experience to Live and Share

Creating memorable and tailor-made experiences is what I love to do when I talk about the mountains. When Sophie wrote to me from London, she was looking for a truly special idea to surprise Mark on his birthday. But it was not just a couples’ gift: Anna and Thomas, long-time friends and passionate skiers, would also be joining them, all with intermediate and advanced levels and the desire to experience an extraordinary adventure off-piste.

So I organised a Day of Heli-Skiing and Freeride for them between La Thuile, La Rosière and the Rutor side valleys: an experience carefully planned down to the smallest detail, away from the crowds, where fresh snow, safety and spectacular scenery come together in an unforgettable mix.

An Unconventional Gift: An Adventure Day with Friends
Mark had no idea what was waiting for him. Only that morning, while we were loading the equipment, did he realise what was happening.

“Are we really flying up there?” he asked, a mixture of amazement and excitement in his voice.

Two Heli-Skiing rotations took them to carefully selected slopes, assessing exposure, snow cover and accessibility. I personally managed every aspect: safety briefings, checking the ABS avalanche airbag backpacks, avalanche transceivers (ARVA), shovel and probe, and selecting freeride skis suited to each person’s level and objectives.

The result?
An exciting but always safe experience, where everyone felt accompanied and valued, with the right amount of adrenaline and without ever going beyond their own limits.

The Flight, Untouched Snow, Total Silence
Flying over the mountains between La Thuile and the Rutor is something that stays in your heart. From the helicopter, your eyes wander across untouched valleys, snow-covered ridges and immense spaces. When you land at altitude, only the profound silence of the high mountains remains: one of those rare moments when you look at each other and realise that you are about to experience something unique.

Two Runs, a Thousand Emotions
The first descent is an invitation to freedom: wide slopes, light snow, fluid turns. Sophie and Anna laugh as they tackle the fresh snow, Mark concentrates with enthusiasm, and Thomas grows increasingly confident.

On the second run we change slope, slightly more technical but perfectly calibrated to the group. Every turn tells a story: confidence, elegance, adrenaline, an authentic connection with the mountains.

Lunch with a View of Mont Blanc
After the last descent, a mountain hut overlooking a breathtaking panorama awaits them, with Mont Blanc dominating the horizon. Reserved table, boards of Aosta Valley cured meats and cheeses, selected wine, fireplace lit.

Mark, smiling, raises his glass: “I will never forget this birthday.”

Anna adds: “The best part is that après-ski is still to come!”

Tailor-Made, Designed for You
Every Heli-Skiing or Freeride outing I organise starts from a simple idea: putting people at the centre. I assess your technical level, the current conditions, your goals and your wishes.

I work independently and without constraints, to offer you maximum freedom: flexible schedules, private itineraries, technical assistance, care of the equipment and complete support before, during and after the experience.

Your Adventure Starts Here
Whether you want to experience all this alone, as a couple or with a small group of friends, I am ready to create an exclusive day of Heliski or Freeride in La Thuile for you.

Contact me directly: I will personally get back to you to plan every detail with precision and passion. All you have to do is enjoy the snow and the mountains. I will take care of everything else.
